Pet urine can be quite annoying to deal with if you are a carpet owner. The nasty smell can really attach to your carpet even after you have removed the urine stain. Some people can even realize that you have a pet dog or cat even if you haven’t told them yet because of unpleasant odor that can be noticed as soon as they enter the door. Surely this is not something that you would want happening in your home.
But getting rid of the unpleasant pet urine smell can be a lot tougher than many homeowners realize. Dealing with this can be embarrassing which is why I have provided some tips below to help you get rid of this unflattering carpet problem once and for all. Here are some ways that you can get rid of the nasty pet urine smell on your carpet.
• Use a Vinegar-based Cleaning Solution – One thing that everyone knows is that vinegar is one of the popular ingredients in the kitchen. What commonly escapes the notice of many people is that this kitchen ingredient can actually be used as a cleaning agent too. Vinegar has cleaning and deodorizing properties which is why it can be one of the best options that you can use in trying to get rid of the pet urine smell on your carpet. In order to utilize vinegar, you can simply make a carpet cleaning solution out of it. Just mix one part vinegar with four parts of water. If you think that the smell is very strong, you may elect to change the ratio to one part vinegar for every three parts water. Next, pour some of it onto the affected areas of the carpet and then allow it to soak there for about five minutes. Then, use a wet/dry vac to remove the cleaning solution and to dry the carpet. After doing this, you will notice that the pet urine stain is no more and your carpet is clean and hygienic once again.
• Use Baking Soda – Baking soda is another household item that you can utilize in order to combat the pet urine odors on your carpet. Baking soda isn’t just good for baking; it can be a great deodorizing agent as well. It is commonly used for upholstery, fabric, and also carpets. Using baking soda is quite easy too. All you need to do is to sprinkle the baking soda on the part of the carpet where the smell is emanating from. If you can’t really pinpoint this area, you may choose to apply it to the entire carpet. After sprinkling the baking soda on the carpet, leave it overnight in order for it to absorb the nasty odor and deodorize your carpet. The following morning, whip out your handy vacuum cleaner and suck out the baking soda from the carpet. You will observe that the carpet won’t stink of pet urine anymore after doing this.
